Today’s date signifies the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome. Persons born with this mutation are diagnosed with Down Syndrome. Many wear socks for the purposes of awareness but how effective is that gesture in your country.
As individuals, families, communities, countries and as a region, each of us must include and empower those that have Down Syndrome. We need to educate and train their caregivers and teachers. We need to be selfless beings and contribute in whatever way that we can to ensure that despite their differences, they are treated as human beings; worthy of dignity and a unique fullness of life.
As you put on your socks, think about the foundation or network affiliated with Down Syndrome that is nearest to you. Reach out, lend assistance and make a difference!
